January Diary

January
Generally a mild grey month with a couple of frosty nights.
It was announced that the Oxford to Cambridge Rail route was to be the northern route which means Toft sits in the middle of the route corridor.
A highlight was the splendid Toft Revue- Seaside Special by RicMar.

Recording of the Open Mic Night

There was only one Open Mic Night in 2020. Attached is a recording of the evening.

Sewing, Knit and Natter

8 of us met in January when we discussed projects we might do for the coming year. We thought we would like to support some in the group who sew for specific charities. The first items we are going to make will be the special cushions plus tote bags for the Cancer Surgery Clinic at Addenbrookes. We also discussed our project for the coming VE weekend.

Seaside Special Rehearsals

Sunday saw the opportunity for those taking part in forthcoming Seaside Special to rehearse on the stage, and to get the final props, sound and staging right. This all caused much merriment!

Service for Christian unity at Toft Methodist Church

The Church in Toft prays for Christian unity in the world

On January 19th the Church in Toft held a service designed by the churches in Malta on the theme of Christian unity. The service, planned and led by Cathy Michell and Barbara Preece, was based on a sea journey taken by St Paul, whose ship was wrecked on the shore of Malta. Once safe on land, the survivors were offered unusual kindness and it was this that formed the main theme of the worship. People were invited to reflect on acts of unexpected kindness they had received in their lives. The centre-piece shown here, reminiscent of a boat at sea, reminded everyone of the perils experienced by refugees today as they attempt, across dangerous waters, to find safety, kindness and a welcome in Britain.

TSC Quiz

A well attended evening at the quiz, and although they were handicapped on their joker round due to their previous win, the winners tonight were Scraping the Barrel.

Quiz Night

Tonight's quiz was won by Scraping The Barrel (Peter, Phil and Derek). The Quiz Master was Richard.

TSC Film Club

The first film of 2020 was "Kursk: The Last Mission" which tells the story of the sinking of the Kursk submarine in the Black Sea in 2000, and the appalling handling of the rescue by the Russian state.

A reasonable sized crowd turned up and all thoroughly enjoyed the well put together film.
